Frequently Asked Questions
Our Approach
What is coaching? Coaching is a supportive, forward-focused process that helps individuals clarify their goals, overcome obstacles, and create sustainable lifestyle changes. As a health coach, I guide clients through personalized strategies to improve their well-being—whether it’s through nutrition, movement, sleep, mindset, or a mix of all the above. It’s a collaborative journey rooted in trust, growth, and empowerment.
Is coaching a type of therapy? No—coaching is not therapy. Therapy often focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions or processing past trauma. Coaching, on the other hand, is about helping you move forward with clarity and confidence. While we may touch on emotions and mindset, the goal is always to support your growth and action in the present.
What is the difference between a coach and a consultant? A consultant typically gives expert advice and solutions. A coach helps you discover your own solutions by asking powerful questions, offering insights, and encouraging growth. Coaching is collaborative—I walk beside you as you explore what matters most and chart a course for lasting change.
Do I need a diagnosis to work with a coach? Not at all. Coaching is for anyone who wants to feel better, function better, and live more intentionally. Whether you’re dealing with everyday fatigue or working through specific health concerns, coaching provides personalized support to help you move forward—no diagnosis required.
Practicalities & Expectations
Can you replace my primary care provider? I do not replace your primary care provider or specialists. Instead, I serve as a vital part of your health team. My work focuses on functional, lifestyle-based protocols that support your body’s foundation. I am happy to work alongside your current healthcare team to ensure that the lifestyle, nutritional, and restorative strategies we implement complement the care you are already receiving.
I’m already so exhausted. Is this going to feel like another “to-do” list? This is the most common concern I hear. The goal of the DRESS protocol is never to add weight to your life, but to help you shed the burden of symptoms. We start where you are. We prioritize small, gentle, and manageable shifts that move the needle without overwhelming your nervous system. We will never do more than your current capacity allows.
What can I expect in a coaching session? Each session is a safe, supportive space where we focus on you—your goals, challenges, and progress. We’ll explore practical strategies for improving your health and well-being, reflect on what’s working, and adjust as needed. You’ll leave each session feeling encouraged, equipped, and one step closer to where you want to be.
Do I need to go to a lab or clinic for testing? The beauty of the functional labs I use is that they are designed to be done from the comfort of your own home. Most are simple, at-home collection kits that you will mail directly to the lab. I will guide you through every step of the process so you feel confident and clear about what you are doing and why.
Is this a significant time or financial commitment? Investing in your health is a journey, not a quick fix. Because I prioritize deep, root-cause investigative work through functional lab testing, this process requires patience and dedication. During our initial discovery call, we will be transparent about the investment involved—both in terms of time, resources, and emotional energy—so you can decide if you are ready to prioritize your wellness in this way.
Is coaching virtual or in-person? Coaching is offered virtually, so you can join from anywhere that’s comfortable for you. Whether you’re at home, at work, or even traveling in your own RV like me, sessions are flexible and easy to access.
About My Practice
Who hires a health coach? Anyone seeking positive change can benefit from coaching. My clients often want to regain energy, improve their metabolic health, manage stress, or reconnect with a sense of purpose. Whether you’re navigating a life transition, exploring holistic health, or simply ready to feel better day to day, coaching can meet you where you are.
Do you work with men? Absolutely. I work with adults of all genders who are ready to take ownership of their health and make meaningful, lasting changes. If you’re ready to improve how you feel and function, I’d be honored to help.
How does one become a health coach? There are many training paths available for health coaches, including certification programs that focus on motivational interviewing, behavior change, wellness science, and ethical practice. My background as a nurse brings an added layer of clinical insight to the coaching process—especially when it comes to metabolic health and root-cause wellness.
How long does coaching last? That depends on your goals and preferences. Some clients feel empowered after the first 90 days, while others prefer ongoing support over several months. We’ll collaborate on a plan that fits your timeline, needs, and comfort level.
